Turkey says Kerch Strait must remain open after Russia-Ukraine standoff Posted: 26 Nov 2018 12:05 AM PST Turkey said on Monday it was worried by reports that Ukrainian ships had been fired on off the coast of Russia-annexed Crimea and said that shipping in the area should not be obstructed. Russia seized three Ukrainian naval ships in the Black Sea on Sunday after opening fire on them and wounding several sailors, a move that risks igniting a dangerous new crisis between the two countries. The incident took place near the Kerch Strait linking the Black Sea with the Sea of Azov. |

According to a report by ABC News, the entry port at San Ysidro — situated north of Tijuana and south of San Diego — had earlier been closed since about 11:30 a.m. Sunday but the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) reopened the border at about 6 p.m. local time. In a statement, U.S. border patrol said that thousands of migrants from Central America are waiting in Tijuana and surrounding areas to enter the United States and seek asylum. |

United Technologies to split into three companies Posted: 26 Nov 2018 10:47 PM PST United Technologies is to break into three independent entities, following in the footsteps of companies like General Electric or Honeywell and splitting one of the last industrial conglomerates in the United States. CEO Gregory Hayes had previously hinted at dividing the $103 billion conglomerate, based in Farmington, Connecticut, and on Monday the company made the decision final. One of the new stand-alone entities will keep the name United Technologies (UTC) -- made up of Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney, business that had combined sales of $39 billion in 2017 -- and be focused on aerospace. |

What Facebook Really Doesn’t Want You to Talk About Posted: 27 Nov 2018 09:14 AM PST In Tuesday's hearing at the ludicrously named International Grand Committee on Disinformation and 'fake news' in London, it became clearer than ever what the social network giant is trying to keep out of the public discussion: antitrust. Instead, Richard Allan, Facebook's European lobbying chief, took questions, and the committee ensured there was an empty seat behind a placard with Zuckerberg's name on it — a barely disguised effort to generate a photo opportunity for the morning newspapers. Allan seemed willing to give ground on regulation, but with caveats. |
