School districts in Pennsylvania sue state over education funding Posted: 10 Nov 2014 01:37 PM PST By Daniel Kelley PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Six Pennsylvania school districts and a group of parents sued the state on Monday, charging that funding for education discriminates against children based on the wealth of their school districts. The system of funding violates the state constitution because it mandates high standards for school districts but starves them of resources to meet those standards, the lawsuit said. Pennsylvania inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal sues over state speech law Posted: 10 Nov 2014 10:04 AM PST By Daniel Kelley PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Mumia Abu-Jamal, serving life in prison for the murder of a Philadelphia police officer, and supporters filed a federal lawsuit on Monday challenging a state law enacted after a college graduation speech the activist inmate gave last month. The state law allows crime victims and prosecutors to take legal action to prevent prisoners from making public statements that cause mental anguish. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett signed the law last month after Abu-Jamal gave a graduation speech for Goddard College in Vermont. ...
