Groups Offer Ways to Improve U.S. Education (U.S. News & World Report) Posted: 22 Dec 2008 04:29 PM CST U.S. News & World Report - By now, many people are familiar with America's poor academic performance on the international stage. Forty years ago, the United States had the highest high school completion rate in the world. Today, it ranks 18th out of 24 industrialized nations. In 1995, the rate of Americans going to college was among the highest in the world. Since then, 13 other countries boast higher college graduation rates than the United States. What can the United States learn from countries that seem to be doing a better job of preparing students for the 21st-century economy? |
