(AP) — A for-profit education company sought to reassure nervous students Tuesday that they'll be able to finish their degrees even though their campuses were being closed amid concerns from the Education Department about its practices.

India state sacks hundreds of teachers over fake degrees Posted: 08 Jul 2014 10:37 AM PDT India's Bihar state has sacked 1,100 school teachers in the last five years for faking their own education qualifications, an official said Tuesday. Bihar's government has launched an investigation into the eastern state's primary and secondary teachers to check the authenticity of their degrees, the official said. "We have removed about 1,100 school teachers in last five years in the state for using forged degrees to get jobs," senior state education official R.S. Singh told AFP. "Our investigation is on to verify degrees of more school teachers.

Most employers have some kind of tuition reimbursement policy, according to a 2013 survey of more than 500 human resources professionals by the Society for Human Resource Management. Experts say future online students may need to take a unique approach to the conversation, however, since many employers are not as familiar with virtual learning. Starbucks may have made headlines recently by creating a tuition reimbursement program for employers who pursue online degrees, but that doesn't mean all employers share the company's enthusiasm for online learning.
