Former Venezuelan prosecutor meets Mexican attorney general Posted: 31 Aug 2017 08:13 PM PDT Venezuela's former chief prosecutor Luisa Ortega met Mexico's attorney general on Thursday, a Mexican official said, weeks after she fled her homeland accusing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of involvement in corruption. Code Pink activist Desiree Fairooz, 61, who was taken into custody after she laughed during Mr Sessions' confirmation hearing, will go to trial in November for a second time. In July, a judge had thrown out out a jury's conviction of Ms Fairooz, finding that the government had improperly argued during the proceedings that her laughter was enough to merit a guilty verdict. |

Frankfurt to evacuate thousands as huge WWII bomb defused Posted: 01 Sep 2017 11:59 AM PDT Frankfurt city officials have warned that Germany's financial capital could grind to a halt on Monday if residents don't heed orders to vacate their homes to allow the defusing of a massive World War Two bomb. On Sunday, the city will evacuate some 60,000 people in the nation's biggest such maneuver since the war while officials disarm the British bomb discovered on a building site this week in Frankfurt's leafy Westend, where many wealthy bankers live. Fire and police chiefs, at a hastily called press conference on Friday, said they would use force and incarceration if necessary to clear the area of residents. |
