Bobby Jindal Says Obama's DOJ Cares More About Race Than Kids Posted: 08 Jan 2014 10:58 AM PST Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal proclaimed Tuesday evening, "the people in Washington running our federal government are more interested in skin color than they are in education." This was after Louisiana submitted a court-ordered proposal to the Department of Justice to modify how information about the Louisiana Scholarship Program is shared. Jindal loves the program because it helps low-income kids leave failing public schools and enroll in private schools (using taxpayer dollars). Now, with the DOJ's involvement, he fears it will be "regulated to death." He said yesterday,  President Obama's Department of Justice has admitted it cannot prove that Louisiana school choice is violating desegregation efforts, yet it continues to seek the ability to tell a parent their child cannot escape a failing school because their child is not the 'right' race. The Department of Justice proposal reeks of federal government intrusion and proves the people in Washington running our federal government are more interested in skin color than they are in education.

Teenagers who drink have more friends: study Posted: 08 Jan 2014 08:03 AM PST By Kathryn Doyle NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Middle and high school students who drink alcohol are often the same ones winning the popularity contests, new research suggests. "There has not been much data to support that drinking among teenagers directly leads to higher popularity and more friendships," said Peter Delany. He is the director of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality in Rockville, Maryland. Delany was not part of the study team, which was led by Mir M. Ali, also from SAMHSA.

U.S. News Releases 2014 Best Online Programs Rankings Posted: 08 Jan 2014 07:13 AM PST While that student was once full-time, young and financially dependent on loans or other support, today he or she is more likely to be part-time, older and working, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. "Students today are doing more than one thing," says Karen VanGorder, director of online learning and credit programs at Indiana University-Purdue University--Fort Wayne, a school that offers several online bachelor's programs. "It's just not possible to fit on-campus courses into their schedules and online learning helps them fit it in." To help students make smart decisions about their online education, U.S. News has released the 2014 Best Online Programs rankings.
