Will a New CEO Help General Electric Company (GE) Stock? Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:57 AM PDT On Monday morning, General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) announced it is replacing its CEO, taking a $23 billion charge related to its power business and cutting its full-year earnings guidance. Investors took GE's transparency and aggressive management change as good news, but analysts say the company will have to demonstrate that its new strategies can stabilize or grow profits before the stock is safe for long-term investors. After only about a year on the job, GE announced CEO John Flannery is stepping down and will be replaced by former Danaher Corp. CEO Lawrence Culp. |

California becomes first state to require women on corporate boards Posted: 01 Oct 2018 05:32 AM PDT California has become the first state in the US to require publicly traded companies to include women on their board of directors. Governor Jerry Brown signed the new measure – which necessitates at least one female director on the board of each California-based public operation by the end of 2019 – into law on Sunday. A fourth of publicly held corporations with headquarters in California do not have any women on their boards of directors. |

Tesla shares jump on Model 3 numbers, Musk deal Posted: 01 Oct 2018 12:26 PM PDT Tesla fans cheered the signs of a manufacturing jump while business analysts said the company needed to fulfil the spirit of the settlement by appointing a strong independent chair and new directors. The electric carmaker's shares sank last week after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission accused Musk of securities fraud and sought to ban him from company leadership, pointing to a long drawn-out fight that could have undermined Tesla's operations and ability to raise capital. Instead, under a settlement announced at the weekend, Tesla and Musk will pay $20 million each to the regulator and Musk will step down as chairman but stay as CEO, keeping one of America's best-known corporate figures in place. |

Struggling GE removes CEO, warns on 2018 earnings Posted: 30 Sep 2018 05:05 PM PDT Embattled US engineering giant General Electric on Monday removed its CEO and warned it would fall short of its 2018 earnings guidance as the conglomerate's cash flow struggles continue. H. Lawrence Culp is taking over immediately as chairman and CEO to replace John Flannery, with the latter stepping down after barely more than a year in his position, the firm said in a statement. The company said because of weaker performance in the GE Power business, the company would fall short of previous profit guidance for this year. |
Watch Beto O'Rourke sing 'On the Road Again' with Willie Nelson Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:56 AM PDT Over 50,000 people turned out for Beto O'Rourke's campaign rally in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, making it the largest political rally for a single candidate since the 2016 presidential election. The Texas Senate candidate enlisted Willie Nelson for the event, enraging conservative Willie Nelson fans who have apparently never looked into their fave's politics. We suppose they're also not pleased with Nelson's new song, "Vote 'Em Out," which was written specifically for the midterm elections. SEE ALSO: Internet roasts Texas GOP for allegedly sharing this 'edgy' photo of Ted Cruz O'Rourke joined Nelson onstage a few times, most notably for a performance of "On the Road Again." Can Beto sing? Jury's out. But he was in a punk band. Donald Trump, whose best-attended campaign rally attracted around 15,000 people, has promised to hold a "major rally" for O'Rourke's opponent, chunky soup aficionado Ted Cruz. So far, there is nothing on the calendar. WATCH: Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No. It's an inflatable Trump baby flying around London |
Boeing, Embraer to build KC-390 military cargo jet in U.S.: newspaper Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:06 AM PDT U.S. planemaker Boeing and Brazil's Embraer are in talks to set up an assembly line to build KC-390 military cargo jets in the United States, Brazilian newspaper Valor Economico reported on Monday. In July, the two planemakers announced a deal to give Boeing an 80 percent stake in Embraer's commercial aircraft arm, marking the biggest realignment in the global aerospace market in decades. At the time, the companies also announced a deeper sales and services partnership on the new KC-390 military cargo jet through a separate defense venture that they said was likely to eventually receive a joint investment. |

The deal was agreed just before midnight on Sunday, a deadline imposed by the US, and will be called the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA. SEC’s focus on U.S. corporate bosses pays off with Musk settlement Posted: 30 Sep 2018 08:46 PM PDT NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A high-profile settlement with Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk exemplifies a recent push by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to go after executives and not just their companies, securities law experts said. In the last week, the SEC announced charges or penalties against eight corporate officials at six companies, including Tesla. The SEC pursued each on different grounds, but securities lawyers said they highlight a shift to an emphasis on personal wrongdoing that has accelerated under Jay Clayton, an appointee of U.S. President Donald Trump who has served as SEC chairman since May 2017. |

Cadillac Recalls 53,000 CTS Sedans for Heated-Seat Fire Risk Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:40 AM PDT Cadillac is recalling 53,586 of its 2014–2016 CTS sedans to address a problem with potentially damaged seat heaters, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall states that it is possible, in cold outdoor temperatures, for the heated seats to turn on automatically when the car's remote-start function is engaged. Excessive heating can occur if the flexible heating mats in the front seats have been worn down over time. |

Russia, for its part, said its "accurate" strikes had killed 85,000 "terrorists". A steadfast ally of Syria's ruling regime, Russia began carrying out bombing raids in the country on September 30, 2015 -- more than four years into the devastating conflict. |

Distractions exist, there's no way around it -- but once you're aware of what's out there, you can map out a solid game plan that keeps your interest riveted to what's essential. |

British PM tells divided party: Don't play politics with my Brexit plan Posted: 29 Sep 2018 06:20 PM PDT Britain is due to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019, but the terms of the departure remain unclear. In an interview with the Sunday Times newspaper ahead of her party's conference, May took aim at those who have scorned her "Chequers" Brexit proposals accusing them of "playing politics" with Britain's future and undermining the national interest. "Unlike the prime minister I fought for this, I believe in it, I think it's the right thing for our country and I think that what is happening now is, alas, not what people were promised in 2016." May says her "Chequers" proposals are the only viable option, but EU leaders have said parts of them are unacceptable and many Conservative lawmakers have threatened to vote down a deal based on May's blueprint. |
