Want preschoolers to succeed? Help their teachers Posted: 08 Sep 2016 02:56 PM PDT In a preschool classroom in Connecticut, the throwing got to be such a problem that some children would pick up metal trash can lids to use as shields. The administrators felt like the teachers weren't open to directives, and the four teachers handling the 18 needy children felt woefully unsupported. It was one of the most discouraging situations that Linda Flach had encountered in more than a decade as a mental health consultant. |
A judge’s insight on how to care for students Posted: 08 Sep 2016 01:00 PM PDT Since the 1970s, nearly every state has been hit with lawsuits by parents or teacher unions over how much money it spends on public schools, especially in poor districts. The crackdown comes as Ankara also pushes ahead with a purge of tens of thousands of supporters of U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, accused by Turkey of orchestrating an attempted coup in July. Gulen denies any involvement. |

"The individuals in question are temporarily suspended -- placed on paid leave -- pending formal investigation," the official said on condition of anonymity. A total of 11,500 teachers suspected by the education ministry of having engaged in activities "in support of the separatist terrorist organisation and its affiliates" have been suspended, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported. |
