Amid student loan tussles, more seek "forgiveness" Posted: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Elbot Carman, a 25-year-old aspiring graphic designer, made so little money after earning his master's degree last year that the U.S. government now says he can hold off making payments on his school loans. Carman owes $140,000 in a mix of government and private student loans. Last year he earned $12,000. "That was so low that they are not requiring me to make a payment this year," said Carman, who works a paid and an unpaid internship and recently moved back in with his mother in Lawrenceville, Georgia to cut costs. ... |

Ontario Teachers refuse to back some Magna directors Posted: TORONTO (Reuters) - Ontario Teachers' Pension Fund, which owns a stake in Canadian auto-parts manufacturer Magna International Inc, plans to vote against re-electing Magna's controversial founder Frank Stronach as director of the company. Magna, long criticized for its corporate governance, paid Stronach roughly $900 million in 2010 to cede control of the company he started. The buyout was approved by an independent committee that examined the deal, but there was no independent evaluation to determine if the deal was fair to minority shareholders. ... |
