Corinthian Colleges, one of the biggest higher education corporations in the U.S., filed for bankruptcy and eventually closed its doors, leading consumer advocacy groups, attorney s general and the Department of Education to explore ways to provide relief to affected students. The Obama administration issued a Student Aid Bill of Rights, and as a result of other actions, the U.S. Department of Education wrote rules for and released a new income-driven repayment option, called REPAYE.
