Easy and inventive egg recipes (that will reduce your risk of stroke) Posted: 22 May 2018 01:55 AM PDT With the news that eating one egg a day may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, it seems only right that eggs are making a breakfast comeback. According to new research published in the journal Heart, for which researchers from Peking University Health Science Centre examined data from over 400,000 participants in China, consumption of up to one egg daily was linked with lower rates of strokes and heart disease. While in this country, it seems we have already embraced the idea of going to work on an egg once more. In March, figures showed that we are eat on average an egg every two days - bringing us closer to the levels of egg consumption seen in the 1970s, when they were at their peak. The British Egg Industry Council, which carried out the research, said people are once again taking the time to make a "proper" breakfast after a string of reports warning of cereal's high sugar content, with some containing as much as 12g of sugar per serving. It is estimated that over the Easter bank holiday around 45 million eggs are eaten a day, with families sitting down to brunches that star eggs as the star of the show. Not only are eggs delicious and incredibly versatile, they are an extremely healthy choice too, being high in protein, low in calories and full of vitamins. Here, then, we share some of our favourite egg-based recipes, making the most of this humble yet heroic ingredient. The drama took place at an intersection on Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee on Monday, reports said. Police had been called to the suspicious package placed on top of an electrical box shortly before 7am. |

Ocean, jungle explosions new risks from Hawaii eruption Posted: 22 May 2018 05:48 PM PDT By Jolyn Rosa HONOLULU (Reuters) - Lava from Hawaii's erupting Kilauea volcano is exploding as it pours into the ocean, shooting rock fragments that are a danger to boaters. Inland, where molten rock is burning through jungle, methane explosions are hurling boulders while toxic gas is reaching some of the highest levels seen in recent times. Lava edged towards a geothermal power plant on Tuesday after destroying an old warehouse near the facility, County of Hawaii Civil Defense said. |

Beijing's South China Sea bombers fly in the face of protests Posted: 22 May 2018 12:52 AM PDT China's brazen landing of nuclear-capable bombers on an island in the disputed South China Sea is a bold power play to bolster its territorial claims while rivals are divided and the US distracted by North Korea, analysts say. China attracted diplomatic protests after long-range H-6K bombers carried out landing and takeoff drills at an unidentified island airstrip on Friday. The planes are believed to have landed on Woody Island, China's largest base in the Paracel Islands which is also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan, according to Bonnie Glaser, a China expert at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. |

Israeli air strikes target boat moored in Gaza: residents Posted: 22 May 2018 07:02 PM PDT Israeli aircraft destroyed a boat moored in Gaza city early on Wednesday morning, local residents said. The Israeli military said aircraft had struck "military targets belonging to the Hamas terror organization's naval force" and "underground terror infrastructure" belonging to Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip. The military said the air strikes were carried out in response to an incident on Tuesday when a group of men from Gaza broke through the border fence into Israel and set fire to an army post. |

Venezuela's Maduro orders expulsion of top US diplomats Posted: 22 May 2018 12:15 PM PDT President Nicolas Maduro Tuesday ordered the expulsion of the top two US diplomatic representatives in Venezuela, angrily rejecting economic sanctions imposed by Washington over his re-relection. On Monday, President Donald Trump Monday tightened sanctions against Caracas, making it harder for the Maduro regime to sell off state assets. "I repudiate all the sanctions that are sought against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, because they harm it, they generate suffering for the people of Venezuela," Maduro said in the speech. |

Trump's blocking of critics on Twitter violates Constitution: U.S. judge Posted: 23 May 2018 02:42 PM PDT By Brendan Pierson NEW YORK (Reuters) - A U.S. judge in New York on Wednesday ruled that President Donald Trump may not legally block Twitter users from his account on the social media platform based on their political views. Trump has made his @RealDonaldTrump Twitter account an integral and controversial part of his presidency, using it to promote his agenda, announce policy and attack critics. U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald in Manhattan ruled that comments on the president's account, and those of other government officials, were public forums, and that blocking Twitter users for their views violated their right to free speech under the First Amendment of Constitution. |

Plaque honoring Olympic soccer player Brandi Chastain couldn't look less like her Posted: 22 May 2018 12:08 PM PDT When will sculptors learn how to sculpt? On Monday, soccer player Brandi Chastain was inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame. This is well deserved as Chastain is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a two-time World Cup champion. SEE ALSO: New Zealand female soccer players will be paid the same as men Unfortunately, though she is joining a group of notable and honored athletes, the plaque made in her honor is joining a league with a different sort of fame. Brandi Chastain has won a World Cup and gold medals but her greatest achievement is smiling graciously next to this whackass plaque pic.twitter.com/YzGda3g4vF — Ryan Mac (@RMac18) May 22, 2018 Here's a closer side-by-side to see the stark difference between plaque and athlete. What'd Brandi Chastain do to deserve this?! pic.twitter.com/WE5Xz2NZZG — Cass Anderson (@casspa) May 22, 2018 Much like the infamous bust of Cristaino Ronaldo that was unveiled last year, Chastain's plaque bears very, very little resemblance to the actual athlete. Esteban Santiago, 28, agreed in U.S. District Court in Miami to a plea deal that calls for him to serve five consecutive life sentences followed by 120 years in prison without a right to appeal. Santiago flew from his home in Anchorage, Alaska, to Fort Lauderdale, retrieved a Walther 9mm pistol and two clips of ammunition that he had checked on the flight and opened fire near a baggage carousel. |
