For-profit schools get report on loan repayments (Reuters)

Reuters - For-profit schools got a report card of their own on Friday, as the Department of Education released data showing estimated student loan repayment rates, part of a drive to tighten oversight of the industry.

AP - Student lender Nelnet said Friday it agreed to pay $55 million to settle a whistle-blower lawsuit that accused the company and nine other lenders of defrauding the U.S. government out of $1 billion.

Education department to boost anti-fraud efforts (Reuters)

Reuters - The federal government will hire more investigators to prevent fraud by for-profit colleges in such areas as student financial aid, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said on Friday.
