Detroit names CFO to help steer city's turnaround Posted: DETROIT (Reuters) - Former Department of Education official Jack Martin will be Detroit's newly appointed chief financial officer, representing one of the first major initiatives taken by the city under its fiscal-oversight pact with the state of Michigan. Martin, who began his career at General Motors and is the former head of Home Federal Savings Bank of Detroit, was appointed by Detroit Mayor Dave Bing. He will be paid $220,000 annually. Egypt's rulers make limited cabinet reshuffle Posted: CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's military rulers will replace four ministers in a limited cabinet reshuffle that will be announced officially on Thursday, the state MENA news agency quoted an unnamed official as saying. The ministers are for higher education, culture, manpower and parliamentary affairs, MENA said. Egyptians begin voting in two weeks' time in their first presidential election since Hosni Mubarak was ousted in February 2011. The polls could bring into government members of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been calling for the replacement of the cabinet. |
