Between 2001 and 2011, female enrollment in all degree-granting institutions rose by more than a third, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. In the case of Sweet Briar, the added burdens of a largely restricted endowment and nearly $30 million in debt forced administrators to make a hard decision, the Associated Press reported. |
