White nationalists rally in Newnan, Ga. Posted: 21 Apr 2018 04:02 PM PDT The National Socialist Movement, one of the largest neo-Nazi groups in the U.S., held a rally on April 21, 2018, in Newnan, Ga. Community members have opposed the rally and came out to embrace racial unity in the small Georgia town. EPA staff see hurdles in Pruitt science revamp, internal emails show Posted: 20 Apr 2018 02:58 PM PDT By Valerie Volcovici WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials are concerned that companies may be required to publicly disclose confidential data used in crafting government regulations, under an initiative by the agency's chief to eliminate "secret science," internal emails showed. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, who is spearheading a push to relax or undo Obama-era environmental rules, said in March he would no longer allow the agency to use studies with nonpublic scientific data to develop rules on public health and pollution. Pruitt had instructed staff to complete the guidelines by the end of February, according to the emails obtained by scientific advocacy group Union of Concerned Scientists and shared with Reuters. |

James Bradley, 61, could have faced the death penalty in the case, considered one of the deadliest human smuggling incidents in modern U.S. history. Gruesome footage of the alleged toxic attack on April 7 in the town of Douma, just outside Damascus, horrified the world and prompted unprecedented Western strikes on Syrian military installations. Soros foundation attacks 'stifling' Orban law as Hungary exit looms Posted: 20 Apr 2018 07:12 AM PDT By Marton Dunai BUDAPEST (Reuters) - The foundation of Budapest-born financier George Soros accused Hungary's right-wing leadership on Friday of trying to stifle non-government groups, but said it would decide whether to leave the country only after parliament passes a "Stop Soros" law. Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose draft law has provoked legal action by the European Union, made clear he would be glad to see the back of the foundation after saying it promotes mass immigration against the will of the Hungarian people. Critics of the nationalist premier, who scored a landslide election victory this month, said a departure of the Open Society Foundations (OSF) would mark a milestone in a slide towards authoritarian rule as he cracks down on independent centres of thought and activism. |
