Chicago school head lauds 'cost-effective' teachers contract Posted: 02 Nov 2016 11:32 AM PDT The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) should be able to afford a new contract with teachers, but it must continue to look to the state of Illinois for more money, the district's CEO said on Wednesday, less than a day after union members ratified the deal. Forrest Claypool, who heads the nation's third-largest public school system, said the four-year contract will cost CPS $400 million less than the previous pact, which expired in 2015. Claypool said CPS must continue to cut costs and obtain more "equitable" funding from state officials, who have agreed to send the district a one-time $215 million pension contribution, which is contingent on the still-uncertain passage of comprehensive pension reforms by lawmakers this year. |

Jose Luis Pazos, president of the CEAPA, told AFP Wednesday parents had launched the unprecedented initiative due to "the absolute certainty that homework is detrimental" to children, damaging their extra-curricular development. |
Defrauded Student Loan Borrowers to Receive Relief With New Regulations Posted: 02 Nov 2016 07:00 AM PDT This week, the Department of Education published the final version of the borrower defense to repayment regulations. Since the new rules did not change very much, we'll use this post to add some clarity and explain how borrowers can apply for this discharge if they feel they are eligible. Borrowers with Federal Family Education Loan Program loans have probably the most difficult burden to meet to qualify for the borrower defense to repayment discharge. |
