Growing up, I was much wealthier than most of my peers—both of my parents made about $100,000. They covered my out-of-state college tuition, let me stay at home while I took unpaid summer internships and, when I got a postgrad job, helped me pay my half of the rent for the city apartment I shared with a friend. All this to say, even though the deck seemed stacked in my favor, I've suffered through my fair share of financially impotent moments. The worst of it started about five years ago. |

What Employers Think of Your Online Master's in Engineering Posted: 26 Apr 2016 06:30 AM PDT When Travis Horton of Louisiana, an engineer at CITGO Petroleum Corporation, decided a few years ago to pursue a master's degree in chemical engineering, he enrolled in an online program at Columbia University. Employers in the field of engineering have generally become accepting of online graduate degrees in the past few years, engineering recruiters say, particularly as well-established universities have built up their programs -- though a few employers would still favor the traditional student. "Now that you're seeing more and more people in that hiring chair that have come from perhaps their own online education, you're seeing a lot more acceptance to it," says Jack Cullen, president of Modis, a tech staffing agency with more than 70 branch offices throughout North America. |
