The head of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) announced Thursday that talks have broken down between the union and the city with the nation's third-largest school system, less than a week before the union's contract expires next Tuesday. Union Vice President Jesse Sharkey said it is "highly unlikely" that an agreement will be reached before the current contract expires on Tuesday. For the time being, the two sides are at an impasse, but Ms. Sharkey confirmed that the union is willing to continue talks with the Chicago Public Schools in the future.
