Fox’s Lou Dobbs: Investigate Robert Mueller and James Comey for Collusion Posted: 29 May 2019 07:00 PM PDT Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs called on Special Counsel Robert Mueller and former FBI Director James Comey to be investigated for collusion on Wednesday night, suggesting they coordinated on Mueller's bombshell public statement on Wednesday. After beginning the broadcast of Lou Dobbs Tonight by accusing Mueller of "permitting the Democrats to steal" the 2018 midterms—a charge he's made before—Dobbs brought on frequent guest Tom Fitton to blast the special counsel for saying he could not clear the president of having committed a crime.Fitton, president of the conservative activist group Judicial Watch, called the Mueller report an "abusive attack" on Trump before saying Mueller "needs to be investigated" for suggesting that there was "wrongdoing" by the president. This prompted Dobbs to bring up a recent op-ed written by Comey in which the former FBI chief pushed back against Trump allies' claims that the Russia investigation into the Trump campaign was a treasonous coup. And Dobbs went and made the kind of leap only he could make: Comey's column must have been written in conjunction with Mueller."Is it a coincidence that James Comey, the dirty cop, wrote an op-ed that was published just a day ahead of the Mueller remarks today?" the pro-Trump Fox Business host wondered. "Is—doesn't that strike you as odd, coincidental, perhaps?"Fitton said Comey and Mueller were "two peas in a pod when it comes to attacking" Trump before claiming that Mueller was conflicted from the very beginning of the "corrupt process.""And this relationship between James Comey and Robert Mueller, many years in its duration," Dobbs responded. "But do you suppose it persisted even as the special counsel and the fired former FBI director, could they have possibly been colluding? Should there be an investigation of that collusion? Because there are too many coincidences, it seems to me."The Judicial Watch chief asserted that he'd already "asked for documents about that collusion" while adding that he thought it was "curious" that Mueller allowed Comey to testify even though he was part of the obstruction investigation. Furthermore, Fitton thought it was also "curious" that Mueller was "disinterested" in the "anti-Trump hatred" in the Russia probe."It is curious," Dobbs declared. "And after today, there are more questions about the witch hunt, as the president first characterized it which I think is an apt description of what this turned out to be."Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. Israel heads to new election after Netanyahu stumbles Posted: 30 May 2019 10:38 AM PDT Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was confronted with one of the biggest defeats of his political career Thursday after failing to form a coalition and opting instead to hold an unprecedented second election. Israel will now head to the polls again on September 17, just over five months after an April election that saw Netanyahu and his right-wing and religious allies win a majority. As Wednesday's midnight deadline to form a coalition approached, Netanyahu was unable to convince ex-defence minister Avigdor Lieberman to abandon a key demand and join the government. |

"Oh, we'd fill it," McConnell said with a smile, according to a video of the event in Paducah. Democrats criticized the remark because McConnell refused to allow a Senate vote on Obama's Supreme Court pick, Judge Merrick Garland, who was nominated to replace Antonin Scalia after the justice died in February 2016. |

Motorola just unveiled the $499 Moto Z4 with 2-day battery life and upgradeable 5G Posted: 30 May 2019 06:11 AM PDT The cat was let out of the bag a little early regarding Motorola's new Moto Z4, the $499 handset the company officially unveiled this morning -- and which Amazon mistakenly sold to a user two days before we were supposed to, er, know it existed. Nevertheless, it's here now -- or, rather, it will be soon, as it hits Verizon in the US two weeks from today. In keeping with past Z flagships, Verizon has got the exclusive stateside, and as with the announcement of the Moto Z3 as the world's first "5G-upgradeable" smartphone, the Z4 will likewise be upgradeable to 5G via the company's "Moto Mod" component once 5G networks are available in your area.Among the highlights of this newest addition to Moto's Z series: it will run Android 9 Pie out of the box and sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor. You'll have 4GB of memory and 128 GB of internal storage, with up to 512 GB of expandable storage via microSD. The device also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and promises a battery life of "up to 2 days."Movies, games, and photos should look stunning on the 6.4-inch Max Vision OLED display that stretches from edge to edge and offers a screen-to-body ratio of 85%. The massive 3600 mAh battery here is also the largest ever on a Moto Z. Additionally, the device is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and the company's largest-ever 48-megapixel rear camera sensor that uses new Quad Pixel technology to capture high-quality 12 MP images. The Z4's rear camera also includes 4x better light sensitivity, in addition to optical image stabilization plus AI-guided portrait lighting, AR stickers, live filters, support for Google Lens and much more. Motorola specifically touts Night Vision, which is included in the rear camera software and layers together eight separate frames taken with different exposure values. After performing some dynamic noise reduction and sharpening, the result is an image with enhanced detail and more accurate colors even in situations with challenging lighting.Verizon will start selling the Z4 in Flash Gray on June 13, and in Frost White later this summer, for $499. It will be available for $20.83 for 24 months on a Verizon Device Payment plan, but for a limited time if you switch to Verizon or add a new line and get a Z4 you can pay $10 for 24 months, an overall savings of more than $200.Existing Verizon customers can upgrade to a Z4 and save $100 when they buy a new phone on a Verizon Device Payment plan. Starting June 6, meanwhile, a universally unlocked version of the Z4 will be available for $499 bundled with the Moto 360 camera Mod at Best Buy, B&H Photo and at Amazon, with pre-sales starting today. |
Boeing aims for first flight of 777X in late June -sources Posted: 29 May 2019 02:26 PM PDT SEATTLE/PARIS, May 29 (Reuters) - Boeing Co is looking to make the first test flight of its 777X twin-aisle jet as soon as late June, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday, slightly later than the planemaker had planned, but still on track for putting the plane into airline service in 2020. Boeing hopes the new jet will extend its grip on the 'mini-jumbo' market, which it shares with rival Airbus SE's 365-seat A350-1000, and perhaps scoop up fresh orders following the demise of Airbus' A380 superjumbo. The test flight will likely be too late for Boeing to hit its previous target of flying the 777X to the Paris Air Show, which takes place June 17-23, where it had hoped to make a marketing splash in Airbus' backyard. |
Is the Syrian regime about to retake Idlib? Posted: 29 May 2019 04:35 AM PDT Syria's regime has increased its deadly bombardment of Idlib in recent weeks, but analysts say that is unlikely to signal an all-out offensive on the jihadist bastion. Eight years into Syria's civil war, the government has notched up a series of victories against rebels and jihadists, and controls around 60 percent of the country. Two regions largely remain beyond its control: a Kurdish-held swathe of the northeast and a northwestern region controlled by Syria's former Al-Qaeda affiliate, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. |

Ex-NBA Star Scottie Pippen Names 5-Year-Old in Lawsuit Over Home Damages Posted: 30 May 2019 04:11 PM PDT Phillip Faraone/GettyFormer Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen has named a 5-year-old girl in a lawsuit over alleged damage to his Florida mansion, claiming she ruined his pad by "defacing" it with crayons and markers. The former basketball player had initially filed the lawsuit against lawyer-turned-comedian Lindsay Glazer and her husband, Jacob Woloshin, in 2018, but amended it this week to include the couple's young daughter. In court documents, Pippen accused Glazer and Woloshin of a "failure as parents" for supposedly allowing their child to "deface certain elements of the property with markers, crayons, and/or cause damage of similar nature" while they rented his six-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion. The lawsuit alleges that damages totaled nearly $110,000 and seeks compensation "in excess of $15,000," excluding legal fees, costs, and interest. In addition to the child's alleged "defacing" of the property with crayons and markers, Pippen has also accused the couple of "neglecting the care of the home," "causing the home to become infected with insects," allowing pets to urinate in the home, and "literally stealing personal household items," among other things. Glazer, who last year jokingly set up a GoFundMe page to "replace [Pippen's] missing knife set" and raised over $700 for charity, laughed off the latest allegations. "All jokes aside, who would have ever thought that Dennis Rodman would be strengthening relations with North Korea, and Scottie 'no tippin' Pippen would be the crazy one suing little girls?" Glazer told the New Times Broward Palm Beach."With all of the publicity this ridiculous case was getting, we thought it good to use it as an opportunity to raise funds for the Fisher House Foundation, which assists military and veteran's families," the comedian told the New Times about the fundraising page.According to The Sun-Sentinel, Pippen was ordered to pay $13,190 more in taxes on the home the same year he sued Glazer. Pippen misidentified the home as his primary residence when he was actually renting the home out, which makes him ineligible for a tax break.Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. New renders show Apple’s leaked iPhone 11 design from every angle Posted: 30 May 2019 05:21 AM PDT Apple's upcoming new iPhone 11 series smartphones won't be the most exciting new handsets of 2019. Not even close. From the front, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and iPhone 11R (if that's what Apple ends up naming them) will sport a design that looks identical to Apple's iPhones from the last two years. Around back, they'll look the same as the iPhone X and iPhone XS apart from a larger and more unsightly square camera bump and slightly different glass that's frosted instead of clear, or so says TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Will they be elegant and sleek? Sure they will. This is Apple, after all. Will they feature fit and finish that's a cut above anything created by Android phone makers in 2019? Of course. To this day, Apple refuses to cut corners or use lesser materials in an effort to decrease costs. Why should it, when the company can get away with charging as much as $1,450 for a single iPhone? If you're looking for excitement, there's plenty to be found elsewhere in the smartphone industry this year. The Galaxy S10 series is already here with a sleek new all-screen design that's interrupted only by a small "hole-punch" camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro is also already available to buy, and its all-screen design has no interruptions thanks to a selfie camera that pops up out of the top edge of the phone. There are more great designs coming later this year, including a revamped hole-punch design on the Galaxy Note 10, and foldable smartphones will make their debut soon as well. So, the new iPhone 11 and its two counterparts certainly aren't the most exciting phones of the year, but they are still the most hotly anticipated smartphones of 2019. We still have more than three months to go before Apple's next-generation iPhones hit store shelves, but a new series of renders should help pass the time by showing us Apple's leaked iPhone 11 design from every angle. As is the case each and every year, the design files for Apple's upcoming new iPhone models were stolen from Foxconn's factory a few months ago. Accessory makers use them to design cases that will be ready in time for the new iPhone models' release, while others use them to mock up Apple's next-gen iPhones for all to see. Such was the case for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and iPhone 11R earlier this year, and now we have a new set of renders to enjoy that are based on those earlier leaks. These latest images come from YouTuber Waqar Khan, who mocked up Apple's upcoming iPhone 11 in all three colors we're expecting to see later this year: Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. Here's a closer look at each individual color:Unlike most other mockups we've seen that basically take Apple's iPhone XS and slap a big square camera bump on the back, these renders represent Apple's iPhone 11 much more closely. Aside from the color-matched square camera bump that will now be home to three lenses, the mute switch on the iPhone 11 is small and round like it is on the iPad Pro, and it slides down the side of the iPhone instead of front to back. Here's a video showcasing Khan's new iPhone 11 renders:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHCA32iKKvs |
Voter Apathy in Nigeria Clouds President Buhari's New Tenure Posted: 29 May 2019 03:05 AM PDT While Buhari won 56% of the ballots cast on Feb. 23, only 15.2 million of the 29 million registered voters backed him. The 35% turnout, down from 44% in the last elections four years ago and a peak of 69% in 2003, is the latest indicator of mounting voter apathy in Africa's biggest democracy. "Many Nigerians, particularly the poor, are yet to feel the impact of democracy in terms of improved welfare and livelihood," said Idayat Hassan, executive director of the Abuja-based Centre for Democracy and Development. |
'Help came too late': survivors recount deadly Budapest boat tragedy Posted: 30 May 2019 08:40 AM PDT Seven South Koreans who survived after their sightseeing boat capsized and sank in Budapest said help came too late as they waited trembling in the freezing river in the dark, Yonhap news agency reported Thursday. Seven South Koreans died and 21 others remain missing after the Mermaid boat collided with a much larger passenger river cruise ship on the Danube in the heart of the Hungarian capital on Wednesday. "The current was so fast and people were floating away but the rescue team did not come," a 31-year-old woman, identified only by her surname Jung, told Yonhap at a Budapest hotel where the survivors were taken. |

Amazon launches cheapest Echo smart display yet Posted: 29 May 2019 07:56 AM PDT Amazon has unveiled its latest and cheapest smart display yet named the Echo Show 5 -- an unusual designation considering that it's only the third member of the segment. The 5 designation seems to be linked to the size of the display rather than linked to the generation number like Amazon typically does. When it comes to functionality, the Echo Show 5 performs like any other Amazon smart home device. |

Qatar PM to make rare trip to Saudi Arabia for emergency summit Posted: 29 May 2019 10:45 AM PDT Qatar's prime minister will attend an Arab summit in Saudi Arabia to discuss regional security, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, the highest level Qatari official to visit the kingdom during a diplomatic rift. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt imposed an economic and diplomatic boycott on Qatar in June 2017 over allegations that Doha supports terrorism, a charge Qatar denies. The emergency summit in Mecca, Islam's holiest city, on Thursday will discuss tensions with Iran following attacks on oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates and drone strikes on oil pumping stations in Saudi Arabia, both of which Tehran denies involvement in. |
Apple is looking into building foldable iPhones out of glass Posted: 29 May 2019 03:04 PM PDT Samsung wasted the opportunity to become the first major smartphone vendor to launch a foldable handset, as the Galaxy Fold turned out to have a few design flaws that compromised the screens during regular use. It's not that Samsung had the best foldable phone design out there, but the Korean giant has been at the forefront of foldable smartphone hype for years. We've been waiting for two years for the Galaxy Fold to arrive, but Samsung kept pushing the launch event as it was still perfecting the phone's design and software. Making foldable handsets, as it turns out, isn't easy, and the Galaxy Fold's early misfortune is a testament to that. On the other hand, Samsung does deserve some praise for pushing the envelope when it comes to new form factors. Someone had to do it, regardless of the risk. But Samsung is hardly alone, as everyone else in the business is working on such devices, including Huawei, which unveiled its Mate X at the same time as the Galaxy Fold. One of these companies is Apple, which has been rumored to be working on foldable iPhones for quite a while. Such a radical design change isn't expected for another few years, but it looks more and more like Apple is dedicating ample time to studying foldable devices. The iPhone maker was just awarded a patent for a Foldable cover and display for an electronic device (US Patent No. 10,303,218). The documentation was filed on January 12th, and it's hardly the first proof we got that Apple is interested in foldable handsets. As always, just because Apple owns patents describing new technologies doesn't guarantee these innovations will be included in any future devices. But the patent seems to suggest that Apple has given the subject a great deal of thought, as foldable devices may have several advantages over traditional electronics, whether they're smartphones or laptops:> Traditionally, electronic devices have a single form factor that may be driven by the size and shape of the display. Because many traditional displays are rigid or at least not flexible, a traditional device that is adaptable to accommodate multiple form factors includes the use of a mechanical hinge or pivot joint. However, these traditional configurations used for traditional notebook and tablet devices are inherently limited by the integration and size required by a separate mechanical hinge.> > Embodiments described herein are directed to devices and techniques for forming portable electronic devices having a flexible cover coupled to a flexible display that do not have the limitations or drawbacks associated with some traditional solutions. The documentation reveals not only potential designs for flexible iPhones and iPads but also goes into great detail on how to manufacture flexible covers to ensure they both work as intended, and are durable enough to protect the screen underneath the flexible glass.Apple proposes foldable devices that could have as many as two hinges and three distinct screen parts that could fold in an "S" shape, or a "G" shape, as seen in these drawings. Furthermore, Apple explains that several areas of the screens could be in use at different times and that the device could be partially unfolded to increase the available screen size. The patent looks at various techniques for creating flexible cover sheets, listing several ceramic materials that could be used for the foldable screens, including chemically strengthened glass, sapphire, or zirconia. What's interesting is that Apple focuses on glass/ceramic for manufacturing the cover sheets rather than other materials, whereas phones like the Galaxy Fold and Mate X do not have glass displays.Apple explains how these foldable sheets of glass would have to be manufactured to ensure they can be bent around an axis safely and survive the stress generated by repeatedly folding and unfolding the screen, and describes the complex system of layers of a flexible display. The document also looks at ways to ensure the finished product has a smooth surface, one that would improve the appearance of the device and the user experience. Finally, the patent focuses on the cover sheet of the foldable device, which means it doesn't feature any details about the other important part of a flexible gadget: The hinge. Then again, this isn't Apple's only patent on flexible devices -- just another piece in the flexible iPhone puzzle. That said, we'll have to wait and see whether Apple will launch a foldable iPhone or iPad in the near future that will make use of any of the inventions described in this patent. |

Microsoft hints at new features and big changes coming in Windows 11 Posted: 29 May 2019 02:02 PM PDT When compared to Windows Vista and Windows 8, Windows 10 has been a runaway success. That's not to say that Microsoft's latest operating system is perfect, but it improved upon its predecessors in nearly every way and has only gotten better in the years since it first rolled out to the public. But nearly four years on, Microsoft has begun to look to the future and may have given us a peek at Windows 11 in a new blog post. After offering a rundown on all of the latest Windows PCs from a variety of manufacturers, Microsoft Corporate Vice President Nick Parker changed gears to talk about the "modern operating system" that will power all these machines. Although he never mentions Windows by name, he certainly seems to be hinting at something big.Parker says the foundation of the modern OS will be enablers ("that deliver the foundational experiences customers expect from their devices") and delighters ("that deliver innovative human centric experiences"). Enablers consist of seamless updates that occur in the background without any interruptions, comprehensive protection from malicious attacks, the ability to be connected to Wi-Fi and 5G at all times, and sustained performance.Delighters, on the other hand, are what elevate the experience of actually using an OS. Cloud connectivity, intelligent AI, multi-sense interaction, and something Parker calls "form factor agility," which is quite a buzz-phrase. Finally, here is an interesting quote from Parker about the so-called modern OS from Microsoft:> These enablers and delighters underpin our vision for a Modern OS, they will provide the foundational elements for an evolution of the PC ecosystem and enable partners to deliver the more human-centric experiences of tomorrow. Microsoft is investing to enable these modern OS experiences, and to deliver new ones that take advantage of silicon advancements, powerful PCs, the cloud and power of AI.All in all, it's a rather vague list of features and concepts that may or may not be the defining features of Windows 11, or Windows Lite, or whatever comes next from Microsoft. He may just be talking about the next evolution of Windows 10, but four years is the longest the company has gone without releasing a new OS since Windows XP. Perhaps Microsoft is setting the stage for a major announcement in the months to come. |
Iran 'reconsiders' aggression in the Gulf after US intervention, says Bolton Posted: 30 May 2019 10:32 AM PDT John Bolton on Thursday declared that recent US actions against Iran had proved an effective 'deterrent' against further attacks on America and its allies in the Gulf Region. "I don't think this threat is over," said Donald Trump's national security adviser at a briefing in the US embassy in London, "but the deployment [of an aircraft carrier to the Straits of Hormuz] and other steps we took did serve as a deterrent and did cause at least some in the Iranian leadership to reconsider plans that may have been in the works." Mr Bolton, a lifelong hawk, also said that evidence Iran was behind the attacks on oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates earlier this month would likely be presented at a UN security council meeting next week. "I don't think anybody familiar with the situation has come to any conclusion other than these attacks were carried out by Iran and their surrogates," he said. In addition, Tehran's support for the Houthis against Saudi-led forces in Yemen's civil war also meant that the Houthi drone attack on Yanbu port could be blamed on Tehran, Mr Bolton said. "I think it's fair to hold Iran accountable even without more information because of the foreseeable consequences of giving such weapons to the Houthis," he said. Nevertheless the 70-year-old, who has often called for the overthrow of the Ayotallah-led regime, struck a softer tone on future conflict, stressing that the "policy we are pursuing is not a policy of regime change" and that he was able to separate his personal views from his responsibilities in the Trump administration. The remarks came after reports that the President has grown frustrated with Mr Bolton's desire to escalate conflict with Iran, which culminated with a plan to send 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Tehran attack American soldiers. At the embassy briefing, Mr Bolton also addressed reports that the US has threatened to sanction European officials who work on providing companies a 'wraparound vehicle' to avoid US sanctions as they trade with Iran. "You will have to find somebody to use [the wraparound]," he said. "Unless and until companies are prepared to do business with Iran but not the US, even if the vehicle is created - which it has not been yet - it's not clear it will have any utility." |

Republican Justin Amash clashes with Trump supporters over impeachment at heated town hall event Posted: 29 May 2019 01:26 AM PDT Justin Amash has become the first Republican congressman to call for the impeachment of President Trump, but many right-wing voters in his constituency are angry.Mr Amash has cited volume II of the Mueller report, which outlines 10 instances in which Mr Trump attempted to interfere with the investigation, as the reason for his calls for impeachment."I am confident if you read volume II, you will be appalled at much of the conduct," Mr Amash said during a town hall meeting at Grand Rapids in his home state of Michigan. "I was appalled by it… And we can't let conduct like that go unchecked."Mr Amash has also accused the Attorney General William Barr of misrepresenting the facts in the Mueller report "to help build the president's false narrative that the investigation was unjustified". Many voters in Michigan have applauded Mr Amash's stance, with some giving him a standing ovation, but others are dismayed the Republican candidate they voted for is not backing the president. There were numerous heated exchanges during the meeting, with some people accusing Mr Amash of "grandstanding", of carrying out a "smear attack" and seeking to build his political career on the issue. One woman, wearing a Make America Great Again hat, asked Mr Amash: "How can you become a Democrat when we voted for you as a Republican?"She also said she believed Democrats were "trying to take over the country through a silent coup".In response, Mr Amash listed his conservative credentials, and also expressed his concern that partisanship had become a stronger force than Congressional independence. He said he fears in the US "we've gotten to the point that impeachment will never be used".As a result of his calls for impeachment, Mr Amash has been denounced by the Republican Party, and faces two Republican primary challenges – one opposing candidate has raised over $60,000 (£47,500) in eight days.Mr Amash was first elected to Congress in 2010 among a wave of Tea Party candidates. He has maintained a strong fiscally conservative agenda and has refused to back government spending on healthcare. |

Don’t ask how AirPods 2 are still discounted on Amazon, just get a pair Posted: 29 May 2019 06:49 AM PDT When Amazon first slashed the price of the Second-Generation Apple AirPods with Charging Case, we called it a "rare" deal. And of course it was, since brand new Apple products almost never get a discount, let alone the 12% discount Amazon offered on the AirPods 2. It has now been a few weeks though, and the price is still down to an all-time low of $139.99. So at this point, we can't really call the deal "rare" anymore. We can tell you that you should hurry up and order a pair though, because once this deal is done there's no telling if or when it will be back. Note that AirPods 2 are sold out right now, but you can still place your order to lock in the discount and they should ship within a few weeks. Here are the highlights from the product page: * Automatically on, automatically connected * Easy setup for all your Apple devices * Quick access to Siri by saying "Hey Siri" * Double-tap to play or skip forward * New Apple H1 headphone chip delivers faster wireless connection to your devices * Charges quickly in the case * Case can be charged using the Lightning connector * Rich, high-quality audio and voice * Seamless switching between devices * Listen and talk all day with multiple charges from the Charging Case |

Nicolas Maduro Has Stripped Venezuela of Its Democratic Future Posted: 30 May 2019 05:54 AM PDT As on-again off-again negotiations for Venezuela's future start up again in Norway, both the Maduro regime and the constitutional interim government seek a knockout blow that neither has yet been able to deliver. But the status quo is unsustainable; without a dramatic course correction Venezuela is headed for national collapse. On January 23, 2019, Juan Guaido claimed the interim presidency according to Venezuela's constitution. Nicolas Maduro's term expired on January 10; his 2018 "re-election" was a deeply flawed, cynical manipulation of the voting process widely rejected by the international community including the Organization of American States. Over fifty nations now recognize Guaido as the legitimate, albeit temporary, leader. The coup de main was intended to be a May 1 uprising led by senior regime officials. They planned to force Maduro into exile and install Guiado to organize new elections. In the end, word leaked, the timeline was accelerated, and the plan was ultimately aborted. |
