Illinois cannot block Chicago school borrowing: legal opinion Posted: 01 Apr 2016 10:22 AM PDT CHICAGO (Reuters) - The Illinois State Board of Education lacks the authority to block the cash-strapped Chicago Public Schools from borrowing, according to the state attorney general. Study Big Data Through Online Learning Posted: 01 Apr 2016 06:00 AM PDT It was the desire for a degree in the field that drove John Cook, an analyst at Marriott International, to online education about two years ago. The 32-year-old Maryland resident wanted to gain a more in-depth knowledge of data analytics and decided to pursue his master's online through the University of Maryland University College. The flexibility of online learning, Cook says, allows him to balance work and family responsibilities with an education that can ultimately boost his career. |

The Court Ruling That Could End the Student Loan Crisis Posted: 01 Apr 2016 03:15 AM PDT An obscure ruling in a U.S. bankruptcy court last week should totally revolutionize the way we finance higher education in America. The case concerned Lesley Campbell, a graduate of the Pace University School of Law in 2009, who took out a $15,000 "bar study loan" with Citibank so she could pay living expenses while preparing for the state bar exam and taking a test-prep course. It's one of the few areas of the student loan business where private lenders still dominate, after the federal government eliminated banker middlemen on undergraduate and graduate-school loans. |
