College Students Say Gay Memoir Is Too Graphic When It Comes to Depictions of Sex Posted: 24 Aug 2015 05:21 PM PDT A number of students have objected to reading Fun Home because of its illustrative depictions of sexuality, according to the school's student newspaper, The Duke Chronicle. The autobiographical novel, which explores the lesbian author's relationship with her closeted gay father in the aftermath of his suicide, was selected for summer reading by a committee from the Duke Common Experience Program. The staff- and student-led group annually designates one book for new students to read over the break and discuss with their peers during orientation week.
