California teachers fund reviewing private equity gun investment Posted: 17 Dec 2012 04:50 PM PST NEW YORK (Reuters) - The California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) said on Monday it was reviewing its investment with Cerberus Capital Management LP, the private equity firm that controls Bushmaster Firearms International, in light of last week's school shooting in Connecticut. With $155 billion in assets under management, CalSTRS is the largest teachers' fund and the second-largest pension fund in the United States, making it a powerful voice in the investment community that may influence others in reaction to the shooting. ... |

Not surprisingly, a national poll of 18- to 34-year-olds found that almost half of our fellow Millennials fears they will end up worse off than their parents. Connecticut Schools on Lockdown Due to 'Suspicious Person' Posted: 17 Dec 2012 07:20 AM PST Public schools in the neighboring towns of Ridgefield, Redding, and Easton, Connecticut, are on lockdown after a resident reported seeing a man possibly carrying a rifle near the Branchville School in Ridgefield Monday morning. Police are searching the area, but no threats have been made and no one has been found with that description yet. Ridgefield is about 20 miles from Newtown, where Friday's shooting took place. |
